Junction box cover sealed with marine grade sealant. The oversized diode makes it far less likely to fail leading to batteries discharging.
Most junction boxes are glued on with cheap and non waterproof glues. Tinned cables mean they won't rot in the marine environment, if rot is allowed to'crawl' up the cable (the blackening often seen in non-tinned wire) once it reaches the junction box the panel is a write off. Most Junction boxes have a small seal around the lid which often leak when submerged in water, a regular occurrence on some sailboats. Similarly the cable glands are often of a cheap and ineffectual nature, fine for the odd rain shower but no good when that wave comes over the deck. The high voltage of these panels mean that they start charging in lower light conditions and are less susceptible to shadowing. If the voltage output falls below 12.4v charging is effectively stopped so a higher starting point means these panels will charge more than equivalent panels with a lower open circuit voltage. The panels can be flexed in one direction enabling them to be secured to curved decks and the non-slip self healing surface means that once securely fixed they can be walked on.
Each panel has been individually tested to a depth of 1 Metre to ensure that they are comple. Waterproof before leaving the factory. We also have a 20W panel of the same specification, please see item number.
We also sell a charge regulator, essential for correct and safe charging, please see item number.
